BNL - JAI collaboration agreement

BNL - JAI collaboration agreement

Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) and the John Adams Institute for Accelerator Science (JAI) signed a collaboration agreement on 17 May 2011.

The agreement provides a framework for co-operation between the JAI and BNL on a range of projects, including development of a machine-detector interface for future electron-ion colliders, joint participation in advanced accelerator experiments at BNL and at JAI, development of compact light sources based on laser-plasma approaches, developments toward high-power proton and muon beams, studies of the use of laser-accelerated protons for medical applications, as well as joint development of an accelerator science training program for young scientists.

Dr. Doon Gibbs, BNL’s Deputy Director for Science and Technology, said, “I am delighted that we have signed this agreement with JAI, and look forward to collaborating with the Institute to take on these scientific challenges ”

Prof. Andrei Seryi, Director of JAI, stressed that, “Collaboration with BNL will allow us to enhance our joint work in many areas where we hope to provide stronger impact on discovery science, industry, medicine and the life of the society”.

One of ten national laboratories overseen and primarily funded by the Office of Science of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), Brookhaven National Laboratory conducts research in the physical, biomedical, and environmental sciences, as well as in energy technologies and national security. Brookhaven Lab also builds and operates major scientific facilities available to university, industry, and government researchers. Brookhaven is operated and managed for DOE’s Office of Science by Brookhaven Science Associates, a partnership between Stony Brook University, the largest academic user of Laboratory facilities; and Battelle Memorial Institute, a nonprofit, applied science and technology organization.
