New Director takes over the John Adams Institute

Professor Andrei Seryi took over the Directorship of the John Adams Institute for Accelerator Science (JAI) on August 9th 2010, succeeding Professor Ken Peach, who was Director from May 2005.

The JAI is jointly hosted by the Departments of Physics in the University of Oxford and Royal Holloway, University of London. The institute is a Centre of Excellence in the UK for advanced and novel accelerator technology, providing expertise, research, development and training in accelerator techniques, and promoting advanced accelerator applications in science and society. The JAI has a diverse programme of research into new accelerator techniques for particle physics, including for a linear electron-positron collider, a neutrino factory and upgrades to the LHC, novel light sources and medical applications, as well as a strong education and training programme. The JAI has more than 30 academic, research and technical members and about 20 research students. Andrei said "I am very pleased to be the Director of the JAI, and I look forward to working with all of its members to develop and extend its programmes. Accelerator science is a key driver for discoveries in many areas of science, and with huge potential benefits to society. And I am thankful to Ken Peach for his great efforts on establishing the excellent accelerator science institution – it is a great privilege to carry on." Ken Peach said "It has been a pleasure to work with Andrei over the past several months to ensure that the handover is as smooth as possible. The JAI is in good hands, and I extend my good wishes to him and all of the members of the JAI."

To mark the change of leadership, a new website was also launched on the 10th August.
