Novel Hadron Accelerators and Beam Dynamics

The Hadron Beams group is led by Dr. Suzie Sheehy and works in close collaboration with members of the Intense Beams Group at STFC/ISIS/RAL. This group focuses on understanding the fundamental beam dynamics of hadron accelerators in order to create innovative new solutions for societal applications. The work covers the spectrum from blue skies research to near-term application and uses a combination of experimental, computational and simulation-based approaches.

Areas of research focus include:

  • Fixed field alternating gradient accelerators
  • Space charge and high-intensity effects in accelerators
  • The Intense Beam Experiment (IBEX) located at RAL/STFC
  • Medical applications of accelerators including hadron therapy and radiotherapy
